Robert Swinger, DVM, DACVO
Dr. Robert Swinger completed his undergraduate work and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois in 2003. After completing an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Veterinary Specialists of South Florida in 2004, he went on to complete both an ophthalmology internship in 2005 and residency in 2009 at the Animal Eye Specialty Clinic. Soon thereafter, he joined the VCA Aurora Animal Hospital outside of Chicago before returning in 2011 to launch Animal Eye Guys. Over the past few years, Animal Eye Guys has expanded to multiple locations across South Florida extending from Miami to West Palm Beach. Dr. Swinger is board certified and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.
In his work environment, Dr. Swinger enjoys teaching and taking active roles in the clinic’s internship/residency programs. He is an active lecturer/wet lab instructor across the nation including the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, The Gulf Atlantic Veterinary Conference, Vet Vacation CE, University of Illinois, St. Matthew’s University, and many local events for his referring veterinary community. His special interests include surgical and medical management of glaucoma, cataract surgery, and corneal physiology. Outside of the veterinary arena, Dr. Swinger enjoys spending time with his family (which includes his twins, Keegan and Francesca, and a toy poodle, Sophia) and enjoys the outdoors, cooking, and traveling
Cherlene Delgado, DVM, DACVO
Born in Chicago and raised in Puerto Rico, Dr. Cherlene Delgado returned to the States to pursue veterinary medicine. In 2003, she joined the ophthalmology department at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the University of Missouri. As a technical assistant, she became fascinated with the world of veterinary ophthalmology. Dr. Delgado received her veterinary degree in 2009 and completed a small animal rotating internship at the University of Missouri in 2010. She then relocated to Madison, Wisconsin where she completed a three year residency in comparative veterinary ophthalmology at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2014. Dr. Delgado practiced in the Chicagoland area from 2013-15 and in mid 2015 joined Animal Eye Guys in sunny south Florida.
Jessica Martinez, DVM, MS, DACVO
Dr. Jessica Martinez received her Veterinary Medicine degree from Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in 2012. She then relocated to Florida for an internship in Equine Sports Medicine at Ocala Equine Hospital and thereafter, worked in Louisiana as a racehorse veterinarian at Backstretch Surgery and Medicine. She completed a three-year residency in veterinary ophthalmology at the Eye Center for Animals in New Orleans in 2017. Dr. Martinez is celebrating her one year anniversary with Animal Eye Guys and recently became a boarded Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.Dr. Martinez is at our Miami Gardens location.
Laura Proietto, VMD, MS
Dr. Laura Proietto received her Veterinary Medicine degree from The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. She then completed a medicine and surgery rotating internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Following her internship, Dr. Proietto was accepted to the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine for a 4 year combined Master’s Degree and Comparative Ophthalmology residency program. In 2015 she received her MS centered around canine corneal healing and was involved in many studies including canine and equine corneal and orbital disease and improving the use of diagnostic methods in practice. During residency, Dr. Proietto enjoyed being active in the clinic and the classroom helping to further client and veterinary education. After completing residency in 2017, Dr. Proietto joined the Animal Eye Guys family and is enjoying South Florida with her husband and their fur babies.
Dr. Proietto is at our Ft. Lauderdale location as well as the Coral Springs location.
Dr. Taryn Overton earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Biology at Nebraska Wesleyan University. She graduated from the University of Nebraska/Iowa State University with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2014, and pursued further academic training with a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Rotating Internship at Kansas State University. She completed an Ophthalmology Internship at MedVet Medical and Cancer Center for Pets before joining the Animal Eye Guys team in 2016. She is currently in her third year of residency in Comparative Veterinary Ophthalmology, and Dr. Swinger serves as her primary mentor. Dr. Overton has a cat named Hitchens, and enjoys the beaches of South Florida in her free time.
Dr. Bryan Artemis was born and raised in Brooklyn New York, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Stony Brook University in 2012. He worked as a veterinary technician for nearly a decade before receiving his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. He then completed a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Artemis has joined the Animal Eye Guys this year for a specialty internship in veterinary ophthalmology. He is excited to further his knowledge in this field of veterinary medicine while enjoying the tropical weather of Florida with Prince, his Chihuahua Pug mix dog.
Tara Stonex, DVM (Ophthalmology Intern)
Dr. Tara Stonex received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University in Animal Science in 2011, and her Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. She completed her small animal rotating internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. She has joined us this year at Animal Eye Guys for a specialty internship in veterinary ophthalmology. She is excited to spend a year in the sunshine with her dog, small Shih tzu that she rescued from the streets of Philadelphia during veterinary school.
