Robert Swinger, DVM, DACVO
Dr. Robert Swinger completed his undergraduate work and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois in 2003. After completing an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Veterinary Specialists of South Florida in 2004, he went on to complete both an ophthalmology internship in 2005 and residency in 2009 at the Animal Eye Specialty Clinic. Soon thereafter, he joined the VCA Aurora Animal Hospital outside of Chicago before returning in 2011 to launch Animal Eye Guys. Over the past few years, Animal Eye Guys has expanded to multiple locations across South Florida extending from Miami to West Palm Beach to Naples and Cape Coral. Dr. Swinger is board certified and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.
In his work environment, Dr. Swinger enjoys teaching and taking active roles in the clinic’s internship/residency programs. He is an active lecturer/wet lab instructor across the nation including the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, The Gulf Atlantic Veterinary Conference, Vet Vacation CE, University of Illinois, St. Matthew’s University, and many local events for his referring veterinary community. His special interests include surgical and medical management of glaucoma, cataract surgery, and corneal physiology. Outside of the veterinary arena, Dr. Swinger enjoys spending time with his family (which includes his twins, Keegan and Francesca, and a toy poodle, Sophia) and enjoys the outdoors, cooking, and traveling
Cherlene Delgado, DVM, DACVO
Born in Chicago and raised in Puerto Rico, Dr. Cherlene Delgado returned to the States to pursue veterinary medicine. In 2003, she joined the ophthalmology department at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the University of Missouri. As a technical assistant, she became fascinated with the world of veterinary ophthalmology. Dr. Delgado received her veterinary degree in 2009 and completed a small animal rotating internship at the University of Missouri in 2010. She then relocated to Madison, Wisconsin where she completed a three year residency in comparative veterinary ophthalmology at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2014. Dr. Delgado practiced in the Chicagoland area from 2013-15 and in mid 2015 joined Animal Eye Guys in sunny south Florida.

Jessica Martinez, DVM, MS, DACVO
Dr. Jessica Martinez received her Veterinary Medicine degree from Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in 2012. She then relocated to Florida for an internship in Equine Sports Medicine at Ocala Equine Hospital and thereafter, worked in Louisiana as a racehorse veterinarian at Backstretch Surgery and Medicine. She completed a three-year residency in veterinary ophthalmology at the Eye Center for Animals in New Orleans in 2017.Dr. Martinez is at our Miami Gardens location.
Laura Proietto, VMD, MS, DACVO
Dr. Laura Proietto received her Veterinary Medicine degree from The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. She then completed a medicine and surgery rotating internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Following her internship, Dr. Proietto was accepted to the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine for a 4 year combined Master’s Degree and Comparative Ophthalmology residency program. In 2015 she received her MS centered around canine corneal healing and was involved in many studies including canine and equine corneal and orbital disease and improving the use of diagnostic methods in practice. During residency, Dr. Proietto enjoyed being active in the clinic and the classroom helping to further client and veterinary education. After completing residency in 2017, Dr. Proietto joined the Animal Eye Guys family and is enjoying South Florida with her husband and their fur babies.

Dr. Taryn Overton earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Biology at Nebraska Wesleyan University. She graduated from the University of Nebraska/Iowa State University with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2014, and pursued further academic training with a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Rotating Internship at Kansas State University. She completed an Ophthalmology Internship at MedVet Medical and Cancer Center for Pets before joining the Animal Eye Guys team. Dr. Swinger served as her primary mentor during her Comparative Veterinary Ophthalmology residency which was completed in 2020. Dr. Overton has a cat named Hitchens, and enjoys the beaches of South Florida in her free time.Dr Overton is at our Naples and Cape Coral locations.
Alessandra Keenan, DVM, MS, DACVO
Dr. Keenan received her DVM from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. She completed a small animal rotating internship at the Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital and then an ophthalmology specialty internship at Animal Eye Guys in South Miami, Florida. Dr. Keenan was then accepted to Auburn University for a 3 year combined Master’s Degree and Comparative Ophthalmology residency program, which she completed in 2020. Dr. Keenan is excited to return to Animal Eye Guys and sunny Florida.

Amy Baker, DVM, DACVO
Dr. Baker received her BA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. She then graduated veterinary school from Tuskegee University cum laude. Post veterinary school, she completed a rotating medicine/surgery internship at Florida Veterinary Specialists followed by a specialized split internship in Oncology and Ophthalmology. She then completed a three year residency program at the University of Florida prior to obtaining board certification.
She has authored several papers in equine ophthalmology and has spent time at Ross University creating and delivering ophthalmology course content to students. She has a passion for teaching and served as a mentor for both students and interns at various practices. She has delivered numerous continuing education lectures around the country.
She practiced at Animal Eye Care in San Francisco and at Blue Pearl in Manhattan before creating Visionary Veterinary Consulting and traveling the country to provide locum/relief ophthalmology and telemedicine services to various ophthalmology practices. She is now with Animal Eye Guys of South Florida and resides with two aloof cats and one crazy but adorable Pekingese.
Morgan Bertram, DVM (Ophthalmology Intern)
Dr. Morgan Bertram is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She pursued her undergraduate degree at a local college and went on to obtain her veterinary degree at Oklahoma State University. After veterinary school she went on to complete a small animal rotating internship at Iowa State University. In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors and exploring with her dog, Cotti.
Andrew Lichtig, DVM (Ophthalmology Resident)
Dr. Andrew Lichtig is a former New Jersey shore native who has lived in the Sunshine State for the past decade. He received his bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Rutgers University and attended the University of Florida for his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Lichtig went on to complete a rotating medical/surgical internship at BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Tampa. He is excited to further his training as a specialty intern, and to see patients requiring the expertise of a veterinary ophthalmologist. When not taking care of animals in need, he enjoys playing ice hockey, practicing yoga, and spending time with his wife and children (of both the human and feline variety).
Richard Diaz, DVM (Ophthalmology Intern)
Dr. Richard Diaz’s journey in veterinary medicine started at a young age with 3 family members that were and still are active local Florida veterinarians. Dr. Diaz was born and raised in sunny south Florida. He earned his Bachelors of Science in Biology with dual minors in chemistry and business administration from the University of Miami in 2016. Dr. Diaz then obtained his Veterinary Medicine degree from The University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2020. After graduating he pursued advanced training in a rigorous small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship at Coral Springs Animal Hospital.
During his internship year he was selected to be one of ten veterinarians in the state of Florida to participate in the FVMA Power of 10 leadership program. He enjoys spending his free time with his dog, fishing, boating and doing anything by the ocean.
